Old Yorkshire Country Life
This book’s title hopefully is a good start in explaining the subject matter. The author observes that as the UK’s biggest county, Yorkshire has plenty of countryside and the book is a collection of snapshots of rural Yorkshire in days gone by. In this respect it’s by no means comprehensive but instead is a very pleasant collection of captioned old photographs of diverse activity in different Yorkshire locations. From making besoms to village pumps, livestock in the street, sheep being sheared these are the obvious perhaps. Also included are unique to Yorkshire themes like Mouseman Robert Thompson’s factory in Kilburn and the gnome woodcarver’s workshop at Littlebeck.
